I think an important point was where he said "The game cant be fun otherwise the players wont have incentive to purchase the extra stuff to make the game better" or something like that. That is totally unacceptable. In my opinion the moment where money starts interfering with design, even if the result is considered to be "better", the game looses its artistic value. That being said, its true that most game developers need to consume food to keep on living and making more games.
