@dislekcia You are entirely correct in what you say about what we should expect from journalists, but its possible that your expectations are a bit high. Bloggers are a different breed. Clicks mean more than integrity. I'm sure that's not news to you.
Just to try to contribute to the actual discussion here. I'm a bit late to the party as I've never heard about lazygamer until earlier this week. I did read the article posted here and one other one, so that's my disclaimer for what I know about lazygamer.
What really struck me as odd though was the line that said something about them not understanding why indies where mad at him. What is odd to me about this is that I don't know how you can say something like that so nonchalantly. If someone is angry/mad at you, you should be damn sure as to why. It's entirely possible(and sometimes necessary) for a journalist to write an article that will upset people, but I feel the journalist should be acutely aware why they are upset. (this is all personal opinion and conjecture though)
I get the feeling though, that if someone were to try and call them out on not engaging with the indie devs(as in commenting in this thread (if they are even aware of it)) they'll just point to that post and ask why we didn't comment there.
On the other hand, I feel that people are allowed to make mistakes, and don't I think we should breed animosity if there is a reasonable chance to actually gain a partner in game dev sometime in the future. This might be naive though, and if anyone can enlighten me as to whether this is a fools hope I'd appreciate it.
Saying nonchalantly that they don't know why indies are mad at them: 1. Is trying to give themselves deniability by ignorance. "I didn't know what they meant". 2. Is trying to push more controversy discussion value. 3. Needs no journalistic research. 4. We can just as easily say "why didn't comment HERE". If they're trying to engage with us. LOL.
@Rigormortis: There was a bunch of twitter context to this. Suffice to say that this was pretty damn weird.
One of the LazyGamers writers has been in contact with me and has pledged to sort this stuff out. It's a pretty concerted effort on his behalf and he'll be at rAge and visiting the MGSA stand again tomorrow. No point being anything but awesome to everyone anyway, right? :)
I don't know how this happened. It totally baffles me.
Literally last week I was chatting to one of the Lazy Gamer dudes at the meetup, and he seemed super cool (and was a really awesome loser when I beat him at Broforce deathmatch). And he was saying how Lazy Gamer wanted to give independent games a little more attention. He seemed really interested in some of the things happening in the indie space, and seemed tired of some of AAA's worst qualities (like focusing on metacritic scores).
So when that article which was unfair to Desktop Dungeons came out, and when the organization got their back up instead of correcting it, it seemed like a 100% about turn with a kick to the crotch thrown in.
I guess there's a diversity of opinions/attitudes over at Lazy Gamer.
Lazygamer is out for sensationalism. They are there to create traffic, flame threads for more traffic etc. Every time I see a Lazygamer article shared on my facebook timeline I just want to face-desk... yes, like face palm, but even more!
Normally I can ask for a cold drink and I get it but sometimes I'm asked to get everyone else the round of drinks. I haven't been told to exclusively use their jacuzzi and someone else I know apparently has a jacuzzi that I'm keen to try; so I don't consider myself a sellout.
Comments
And you're not invited to my jacuzzi party. There will be humour and silliness there and I think you might misunderstand.
Still - your point is a good one.

Whereas rocking up at their place wearing only a towel and immediately settling in their jacuzzi with a cold drink of your choice is success.
I think MakeGamesSA is trying to tell me what qualifies as a successful indie #scandal #jacuzzis
(Which is actually more successful than non-Nintendo success, but nobody thinks so because kids games, reasons, something, mumble)
After all they've only got enough money to last for 30 years before they have to sell some assets if they make their worst losses ever continually.
