A Throwback to the roots of classic first person shooting

Think back to a time when military shooters were so dominant and important in your gaming schedule, what made them so good? It's simple, They were fun! No boats, tanks or jets to do your work for you - keep those boots on the ground! You are a soldier, you have your guns, your body and most vitally your mettle! Head out, Grunt!

With a distinctly historical arsenal made available to you, you can choose to play any way you want. A selection of the weaponry also contains attachments that were either in use on the field or being tested at the time, giving you lots of options! Unlock more guns as you progress through the ranks to become the ultimate foot-soldier!

Come sun, rain or snow in darkness or light, war will rage on!

What's the forecast? You choose! You can play in clear, rainy or snowy settings in Grunt1914. These selections have a distinct effect on the maps you choose to fight on, as the visibility and controls adapt to the weather cycle at play! As the fog fills the air and the snow piles will you be able to hold your nerve and take that perfect shot? Time will tell!

The Axis vs the Allies, blood will flow!

It's the classic story as we've heard it told many times before, the story of brutality and fear, yet also victory and brave hearts! You can play as either a soldier from the Axis alignment, or the Allies confederation. Take up arms in Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Gun-Game modes as you rush to be proclaimed the victor above all others!

Bordered arenas with tons of tricks and turns 

Do not desert the battle soldier! Grunt1914 features eight distinct and robust maps to explore and seek triumph in! These are all based on real life locations from novel and peculiar theaters of war of that historical time. Each map features certain unique traits and areas to uncover and unravel, as you make your way through deserts, forests, tombs, military bases, underground hospitals, towns and many more rare areas!

Skill above all else

There are no power-ups or buffs to help you here, no powers or special treatments to be had. Only one thing matters in Grunt1914, your tactics! How you react and the way you play will decide your fate! There are no vehicles or mounts to save you! Your skill is all you have here! Are you a sniper that favorites long range kills, are you a run and gun heavy grunt or are you sneaky silencer type? You can be any class you want, as long as you can survive!

The nostalgia of a classic interface

Brave the harsh battlefields and arenas with a compass and map in hand, use those senses to locate enemies on the field! All of these are neatly laid out and visible to you at all times, exactly when and where you will need them! Use these tools to your advantage to turn the tide and become the victor when all seems lost!

About the developer

Aligned Games© was started by me, Johannes Christiaan Nienaber in 2013 as a video-game development studio. At that time I focused on the creation of smaller scale games, but have since moved into developing bigger and better games. I run the studio myself and as such all of its associated video-game are my sole creations. Grunt1914 is my first foray into the PC gaming market.

    Is there any gameplay to see? A prototype to play? Something that shows off the day/night/weather system? The fact is that I really can't tell you anything that might be of any help based on some words.
  • We are pretty good at giving critique in this community, some can even give experience based advice, more so than absorbing advertising. You should consider dropping a demo here for feedback before the gameplay features are set in stone. Otherwise , what you presented looks good.

    Thanks for the feedback guys. I had to leave before I had a chance to finish the post so I couldn't upload pictures. Ill do it now.

    In the coming months I will release the details about the testing phase of development and everyone can try it out.

    This beta will be playable from today until next Sunday(the 20th). There is no embargo on the beta and streaming and/or recorded videos are allowed and encouraged.

    Ok so, there are some notes about this beta, this is version 1.3.

    Notes :

    - Customization disabled for beta.
    - Weather selection for the maps disabled for beta.
    - Animation issues prevalent with guns and characters.
    - Audio issues prevalent.
    - Interface issues expected.
    - Bugs and crashes expected.
    - There are 4 maps in the beta, the final game has 8.
    - There are 6 guns in the beta, the final game has between 12-15.
    - There are Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch game modes in the beta, the final game also has Gun Game and Domination.
    - There is a 100 user limit on the beta so if you are unable to get in just be patient.

    Installation :

    The beta is provided as a standalone zip file and can be run as an application.

    The download size for the zipped beta is around 1.5 GB.

    Conclusion :

    Keep in mind nothing is final and the game still has a few months of development to be done. If you are planning to join the beta please let me know how the experience goes and if you have any bugs to report you can do so in the discord or email me at grunt1914@gmail.com.

    Please approach this public beta with an open mind and keep in mind that I am the sole developer on this project and as such issues and errors are to be expected. I hope you have fun!

    Get ready for all out war with Grunt1914.

    Face off in multiple dangerous arena's with an arsenal of gear and weaponry to proclaim yourself the victor above all others!

    Change the weather! Its hard to see in the snow and slippery to run in the rain! Level the playing field!

    Play as a guile based sniper and make it impossible to spot you all the way to a heavy machine gunner cutting through opponents with ease, with everything in between.

    Launching on all major release platforms on the PC.

    This video features a few rounds of Beta game play that was privately carried out between a small group of players.

    There are a variety of maps shown in the video, but in the full game there are many more. Each map can be played in any weather condition that the match host selects.

    The video also shows a big selection of the weapons in the game, but there are even more in the full release. 

    The footage captured is not final but is near a release state.

    I'd just like to ask what kind of focus your marketing is on, as that's pretty crucial, especially considering your game LOOKS pretty much identical to all sorts of other games, but with lower fidelity. Devs can appreciate the amount of work a project has taken, but consumers don't care.

    This doesn't tell me anything at all that differentiate the game from Battleground, Modern Warfare, COD, or any number of arena-shooters that are everywhere right now.

    If you have something unique - you need to focus on that first and foremost!

    Yeah I've definitely been struggling with marketing, Its been an upward learning curve, definitely not my strong point. Having been a solo dev on this things have shifted many times, but I guess that's how you learn.

    The project has spanned over so many years that the focus has constantly changed but I think the main drawing point is the amount of options available to the match host and the amount of game modes on offer. For example the weather options and soon after release each map will have a day/night option.

    Apart from this the game also has a large amount of maps (8 with 8 more planned post release) and a large amount of weapons with more planned.

    I guess I could focus on that factor more.

  • Well done on this, it's not bad at all for a solo project.

    Working on a fps game myself and its not easy to say the least.

    I watched your video and I must say it looks quite fun. People like to play fun games and that's all you need to get the ball rolling.

    This definitely has potential.

    Hi. I would appreciate a link to try it out. I assume you are using Photon for the networking. I do have a local Photon server hosted in CPT if you would ever like to test with a local connection. You can PM me for details if you are interested.
