The end is in sight, should be done in a few more months. :)<br><br>I haven't setup a studio website yet, for now I blog on my personal site, see below. Johan here. I lecture software dev at NMMU. I'm also the official "sponsor" for the gaming special interest group at the NMMU. I try to get as many people as possible involved in game dev...Some years this works better than other years. I only do this cause its better than real work...<br>I used to dabble in play by email games...also did some coding for MUDs...really suck at graphics...so I miss the good old days when text based games were also cool...<br><br>
  • <font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2">I'm Denzil! I've attended one meetup so far, and will definitely come to more! I make games in my free time, but normally give up when I realize how boring they turn out to be, or when I bump into a huge technical limitation! Working on a 2D post-apocalyptic survival zombie game at the moment, with a spin to make it a little different from every hack-and-slash-and-kick-and-shoot zombie game out there! I'll upload an early demo and share it here. Would love to get some opinions and criticisms from you guys! </font>

  • Hi I'm Shelton Paulsen. I went to UWC. Did some compSci. Avid, gamer.(I still have a sega saturn, psx, ps2 and ps3 in my home). Still play gameboy games like pokemon(mostly). Arcade junkie KOF and Tekken. I play a lot of games(the same genres though). Also play PC games(almost forgot).
I plan to be active in this rapidly growing community and hopefully make, and finish, some awesome games. Java programmer learning C++ and then C#. I'm "talking a lot".
  • Hey, I'm Johan van Staden from Luma Arcade.
I have a Computer Science background with experience in Seriouse games/Simulations, focusing on Project management and production.
  • Matt Benic here. Many moons ago I did Com Sci, for most of the past ten+ years I've been doing game and simulation dev for a living. I'm currently with Luma Arcade, working on Bladeslinger. Info on most of my past projects can be found on my horribly neglected blog.
  • Hey, I'm Miki von Ketelhodt. I am currently finishing matric in Penryn (Nelspruit). I have a huge passion for programming, specifically game programming and would like to get started as a game developer. Currently just doing IT at school but am hoping to study Computer Science next year.

Looking forward to interacting and getting to know all of you on this site :).
  • @mikstur If you like programming (which I think normally is clear, you either do or you don't :P), don't expect it to be anything like game development! You will have to do some extra homework and train yourself to become a game dev. Start small, but there is nothing wrong with aiming big in my opinion!

    Welcome to the community!
  • @Denzil yeah, I hear you man :). Thanks for the warning. I think I have a pretty clear idea of how advanced programming can get and I love it! Especially game programming ^^. Thanks for the tips, I shall start small and work myself up and thanks for the warm welcome :).
  • Hi everybody, I'm Jozef! I've loved games since I was about 5, and have dabbled on my PC from about 8. I studied multimedia and then honours in computer science at tuks. I work as a java programmer but I don't shy away from other languages, and I'm rather fond of C++, C# and Python.

I also like to dabble in art (always had an interest but mostly self-taught, and shitty at it) and game design. But frankly I feel most comfortable programming becasue that's what I do for a living!

Anyway I've always wanted to make games. I started about a dozen projects through school which I never finished... and a few I finished. I look forward to starting up new projects and inflicting them on you lot! :)

Hi guys! I am Francois van Niekerk. I was a bit involved in the Game.Dev community a few years back (I used the nick 'liquido'). Currently doing my MSc (Computer Science) on AI for the game of Go.

I've done a bit of game dev over the years and I am strongly considering starting a small studio after I finish my masters, hopefully in 2014. No promises on how active I will be in the discussions, but hopefully I can find the time to prototype some of my ideas.

  • hi, I'm Fanie, and I'm addicted to games.

Welcome to mgsa! :D Very proud to have one of the forerunners of gamemaking in SA here! :)
  • Thanks Tuism, looking forward to meeting greeting and sharing stories with everyone.
  • Hi, my name is Hilgard. I'm currently doing my MSc (Comp Sci) at University of Stellenbosch, but what I'm aiming at is becoming an indie dev. I love games, and making them.

If you want to find me anywhere else (like twitter), I go by Ramperkash pretty much everywhere, but I'm not necessarily very active at each of these places.
I've lurked for a bit now, and will for some time more, but I intend to get more involved soon.

    Hey guys,

My name is Duncan Bell and I have been modding games since I was 13. As the years passed I found myself enjoying making games. I am an advertising agency ninja during the daytime and spend my moonlighting hours developing games.

My first release was Blazin' Aces (http://www.reddotlab.com/blazinaces), and I am currently upscaling it and porting it to smartphones.

You can follow me on twitter (https://twitter.com/duncanbellsa)
  • Hello!

My name is also Duncan, Duncan Greenwood :)
I work at FreeLives in Cape Town. I mostly do animation, and vfx stuff. I used to specialise in character rigging for film, but I always wanted to make games, and I was getting bored of doing the same thing all the time.

My favourite part of my job these days is the explosions. I like to make things explode. Exploding bombs. Exploding flamethrowers. Exploding brains. Exploding blood dripping from walls after all the exploding corpses.
    ...
    Exploding corpses again...
    ...
    Also. Zombie dinosaurs.
  • Exploding zombie dinosaurs? :) Welcome!

    Hi Kaiser! That's awesome! Welcome!
    Thanked by 1Kaiser_Gun
  • Wait, there's a welcome thread?

Fair enough, allow me to introduce myself:

I am Thaumaturge, sometime professional game developer, aspirant indie game developer, amongst other things.

*the light dims; thick clouds spread with preternatural speed over the sky above, flickering with purple lightning*

And soon shall my plans brought to fruition! Soon shall my powers wax, and the barriers fall before me!

*lightning cracks from the clouds behind him, rendering the sky in white and he a black silhouette against it*

    MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
  • Hiii Thaaaum, flashy entrance there! :B

Hello, I'm Danelle Malan and I'm an artist from Cape Town. I do illustration and fine art work and I really love dachshunds.
And pigeons, and cats, and fruit bats, and pretty much all animals. I also really like food and sleep and playing games and reading all sorts of things.

I do a webcomic called Cottonstar with my partner-in-crime Ben Geldenhuys.

You can look at my work here and here and my tumblr is here (there is a butts tag on my tumblr which is pretty awesome).
