  • Starting Salary R10 000
For someone with a degree and 1 to 3 years experience? Really?
  • Where would one find more info about Afrinet Information Systems? They seem to have zero internet presence apart from this job offer. Your email points to a college / student placement website with a couple of non working links.

This seems a very low salary for what is being asked of.

Not to sound too harsh but the amount offered for what's expected in return is totally tone deaf. I have to echo @dammit and @kidult on this one.
  • Wow ... sorry but anyone with a Batchelors and 1 to 3 years of experience is not going to accept that salary. I am in the IT industry (Software Development and Software Architecture) and our juniors out of DUT get more than that.

I have to agree with everyone above me, this is a very low remuneration for the skill set you are looking for. Good luck.

    …Afrinet Information Systems…

This is a direct hire role with a salary up to R10 000 based on experience CV to… @studiosilver.co.za

A job must be posted by the company offering the position/contract and the company must be clearly identifiable.

Studio Silver is a service provider to the OpenWindow that specialises in contributing to student education by facilitating practical hands-on experience with real clients and their projects. We Assist the student by exercising quality control and communication.
    tl;dr:
They're a recruiter with close ties to Open Window.
Posts by recruiters are against the forum rules.
Yes that salary is ridiculously low. Considering it's up to 10k
  • Hi All

Afrinet Information Systems is the employer in this regard. I am employed by last mentioned to find candidates for the positions as advertised.

The salary is reasonable for the type and scope of work taking into account our financial climate in South Africa and the fact that this is a startup division.

Afrinet Information Systems does not have emails addresses at this stage to facilitate communication, thus a temporary email address is being utilized.

    Kind Regards,

    Ursula

  • taking into account our financial climate
This is such rubbish. What you're saying here, really, is that you know the position deserves more pay but - for whatever reason - you cannot pay what is reasonable and so offer less to take advantage of what you hope are desperate candidates.

If you cannot afford to have a developer with the skill level you're asking, then you cannot reasonably ask for that person to join your company.

No, it's not. Not even in the slightest. I agree with Dammit here, you are trying to take advantage of people.

  • Sorry Ursula ... the salary you are offering is NOT reasonable. I am in Durban and some of our mid level developers who don't have the degree (that you have now removed from your original post) and they are earning R30 000.00 per month.

This is actually upsetting that you value a developer (never mind a game developer) with 3 years of experience at R10 000.00. Our DUT (Durban University of Technology) candidates who join us fresh out of DUT earn R15 000.00 per month.

You are going to struggle to find a candidate here let alone any sympathy for your post, as @dammit and @kidult have more eloquently stated, is nonsense. You might find someone who will remotely do the contract work for that amount, but I highly doubt you will find a permanent candidate.

  • Hi Ursula,
    Welcome to the forums :)

With all due respect, it's not up to you as a recruiter, or the hiring company for that matter, to determine what is industry standard (aka reasonable) for such a position. That may be what they can afford to pay, but then they must lower their expectations on what they will get for that money.
Some of the people giving you salary feedback in this thread (myself included) actually employ such individuals in the industry, and so know what these skills cost. I would advise you take this feedback back to your client.
To give you an indication, we pay more than R10k for new graduates with no working experience (but with demonstrated competence in unity and game development).
