[Job] Wits EIE Game Design Lecturer (URGENT)

Position: Associate Lecturer: Game Creation and Design

The School of Electrical and Information Engineering is looking for a suitable person to fill the position of Associate Lecturer in the Digital Arts programme. Digital Arts is a three-year undergraduate programme which is jointly offered by the Wits School of Arts and the School of Electrical & Information Engineering. This post will be housed in the School of Electrical & Information Engineering.


The applicant must have experience working on the technical aspects of game design, with particular emphasis on system and software design.


Qualifications:
The applicant must have an M Sc in Engineering and some teaching experience at undergraduate level. A research record, as evidenced by publications, will be a distinct advantage. An active interest and some experience in the development of digital games would also be a clear advantage.


Duties:


The duties involve:
-Teaching a variety of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, in the broad field of programming principles and software design;
-Supervision of postgraduate research;
-Undertaking various administrative duties in the School, in particular the administration of the Digital Arts programme working in close collaboration with Wits School of Arts, Digital Arts Division;
-Active involvement in curriculum design and the establishment of pedagogic practice; and
-Contributing towards the research output in the School.

  • At this point I might seriously consider it.. if it wasn't for that MSc requirement :P
  • @mattbenic just spoke to the powers that be. The MSc can be substituted for your work exp ;)
  • The thing is that most game developers are not academic and most are self taught so it will be difficult to find someone with an msc who knows how to do games...

    If you are lucky some self taughts have bsc in computer science not electrical engineering. And most of them are "game programmers" not "game design".

    So you will have to scout very hard for the individual you are looking for.
