Steam Profiling and Public Image

I thought I'd just see what your take is on this:

Is it important to maintain a healthy/impressive Steam profile as a gamedeveloper because - "playing a large variety of games means you look like you have a broader horizon and are more "educated" in the Realm of Game-development..

Ie. Having a lot of Steam-points and owning a lot of games type-of-scenario

I have honestly never considered this a factor in anything ever.

This sounds like other people would be judging whether or not to buy stuff I made based on how many games I owned on Steam? Um, screw that. The games I'm most likely to rant about as formative experiences for my career aren't even on Steam in the first place, they predate it.

I think just playing lots of different games in a balanced way that also lets you have a life is enough, why should you have to show that off? Who would be looking? Why?

  • I have a company profile for my steam account anyway - whose low profile points should be pretty obvious. What I would be curious about is how far do you go with fan engagement? Responding to friend invites etc. As much as I want to respond to their enthusiasm I feel boundaries can only be a good idea.
