My 2015 in... photos of screens and not-screens (too) (tu) (tuu)

Hopping on the train because it's a cool train :D

My stuff is a bit of a mixed bag... So they're not all screenshots! Basically, if it's game-making-related, I put it here.

In no particular order...

I hope I haven't left anything out. I in fact have no idea. This was from scouring my instagram and threads I started here, and some

Wow, that's a lot more than I ever thought there'd be. I've been having problem feeling productive lately. But I guess this doesn't mean I'm not productive. This means I'm not meaningfully productive...

  • @Tuism, really nice portfolio of this year. I have a question which might be personal but have you made any money by doing gamedev yet?

I'm really enjoying seeing these, and comparing different peoples' style (aesthetic or mechanical). :D
  • @Zaphire well, it depends on which you're talking about. For my own stuff, zip, zilch, nada. For commissioned stuff - and that's mostly boardgame related art, some, not substantial, but some.

Suffice to say... I'm not living off gamedev income. That's due to a combination of factors... One big one is just simply I don't know how yet. Also I haven't finished anything.

I need to change that bigtime :/
  • @Tuism Awesome collection, and that's just 2015! Loved some of your older toys too... Dead run etc
For my own stuff, zip, zilch, nada.
... I'm very surprised. I thought you did.

What are your thoughts around polishing, then putting something on itch.io for example?

    Thanked by 1Tuism
  • Wow this is tons more than I've done! :( Damn day job gets in the way all the time.

Seriously though, some very nice stuff here. Good job!

  • @Tuism thanks for the response Tuism and I feel some motivation in your message because we are busy finishing a game this time and want to let it go big (should have prototype by end of next week) and the words "Also I haven't finished anything." gives me hope because I always thought you guys have finished big stuff and made big bucks.

Hope you make some big bucks soon because your work is really good :)

Thanks man :) I don't actually know how I come across as making buckets from my games, it should be fairly obvious when something is released and successful (bro force, dd, viscera, etc). I'm obviously not anywhere near that :)

My stuff *are* on itchio. Whether they don't make money because they're not good enough, or not polished enough, or because I haven't tried to sell them (as in lock them behind a price gate as opposed to donations now), I don't know.

But they haven't seen enough exposure for me to be certain that they will be sellable. That's kinda what I've picked up to be the criteria of evaluating whether something has sale potential.

I don't entirely know if that's 100% true, but I don't know any other measure besides speculation :/

@Tuism Nah, your stuff is polished and fun. Quality/fun isn't the issue... Market saturation is at it's peak, that's all. That means there's huge demand obviously, but everyone and their dog is aware of that and punting their wares. Anything you push out will be swallowed by a sea of others. To get something noticed, I guess marketing is more important than ever and one has to throw money at it perhaps if one believes in the product enough. Adwords? Hell I don't know.

They say in an over saturated market one must specialise, find a niche... research the latest trends, stay current and flavour the product to appeal to those latest trends. Or solve a problem/add value in the industry. I think the itch.io creator did exactly that. Just when we all thought steam's entry barriers were too low, they made it even lower with itch... not a bad thing I think. Some game studios whose primary focus was making games has shifted to producing tools for making games, to be consumed by the hordes. Clever.

All I can say for most people around here is that I can see everyone improving year on year exponentially... Life will reward the patient and the persistent. It's a loooong game they say. Keep at it. The fans are right here ;P

Sorry for going off topic on your thread a bit. :)

Edit: (Okay I'll go away after this) I think to take on the world, we need to stand together and showcase our (MGSA) best. Divided as individuals we will fall, united the chances are better? An idea...maybe a MGSA bundle on itch is not a bad idea? Thoughts?
  • @konman MGSA HumbleBundle :)

@roguecode why not? If I search for bundles on itch there's less than 20... LOL (okay when i search for the word bundle...mmmmh? Seriously? is that an opportunity? :)
