It's good to know what the tools you have are capable of and know their limitations. It's not good to spend all your energy focusing on your tools and not focusing on the thing you're creating.
It does depend on your goals, but my recommendation would be to pick a simple toolset that you know can reach the level of depth you're aiming for, then just do it. Try to focus on the product more than the tools. Maybe later you find out you could have used a different tool, and it might have been quicker; it doesn't matter, because in the meantime you would have version to learn from.
